A collaborative effort between IHMC and NASA on using concept maps to explain the rationale for human space exploration beyond low earth orbit has recently been made available to the public.
It can be accessed from NASA’s website at:
http://www.nasa.gov/exploration/whyweexplore/cmap.html
or directly at IHMC’s site at:
Even if you are not interested in space exploration, our experience is that students often think its “cool” that NASA is using concept maps and can serve as a motivation for them to construct their own. So if you are a teacher you may want to share the link with them.
The concept maps were constructed using CmapTools, and the model includes a little over 120 Cmaps based on the knowledge of experts, over 200 linked video clips of interviews with experts and scientists made specifically for this effort, plus 300+ additional video clips linked to the Cmaps. Also linked are hundreds of links to images and web pages.
